KEEPING THE WITCHES AWAY. The Rowan tree will come with a jar of Rowan jelly, made from our trees here in Shropshire.
The Rowan, Sorbus aucuparia, was considered to be one of the most potent antidotes to ward off evil in ancient times.
Even today, it is planted near to the home to be on guard, frightening away witches and other dark creatures.
A tree which flourishes wherever it is planted. In spring it has a fine display of creamy flowers followed in late summer by vivid red berries and a show of gold and red foliage.
Ecologically very friendly, it is a favourite tree of our song birds who after gorging the berries, will sing most beautifully.
The Rowan comes dressed in a hessian sack tied with an orange ribbon, the colour for Halloween, a scroll with the Symbolism of the Rowan, planting instructions and a hand written message card.
